Work Force Development
The MDS-Rely Center is actively developing the next generation of data scientists focused on real-world materials applications. The center provides an opportunity for Industry to work with students from Tier 1 Research Universities in a cooperative environment. This experience naturally evolves into professional opportunities for many of the students to become tomorrow’s leaders in data science. Furthermore, professionals who are currently managing data scientists will gain the basic knowledge to lead and communicate effectively with their data scientists in the future.

Over 90% of membership revenues flow to research. NSF specifically sets a maximum of 10% on indirects for the Center instead of sponsored research where indirects are over 50%. NSF also commits cost share of $150k/site/year.
