Core Values
Direct Research Impact
Ensure relevance of research projects and directions. Opportunities to conceive or develop projects with Pitt and Case professors on topics or questions you find exciting. Guide the technology scope, select projects and review progress. Provide paths to commercial impact.
Access to Network
Engage an extraordinary data science and materials community composed of many of the nation’s top researchers and most forward-thinking companies in building a strong research portfolio. Participate in biannual Center meetings. Participate in biweekly project meetings and monthly technical seminars. Receive monthly newsletters.
Access to Talent
Opportunities to interact and collaborate with Pitt and Case professors and PhD students. Opportunities for hiring students through summer internships or co-ops. First access to recruiting bright materials data-science trained students.
Get Most Bang for Your Buck
All of membership revenues flow to research without any university overhead. This is in contrast to sponsored research, which has over 50% indirects. NSF commits a cost share of $150k/site/year for the first five years of the center.
Accelerated Access to Research Results and Facilities
Stay up to date on the latest innovative and impactful research. Save internal research dollars through access to facilities, infrastructure, and lower human capital costs. Share risks of early stage research leading to disruptive business opportunities.
Access to Software Code
Obtain versatile codes developed and shared by university researchers. Get robust codes that have been tested across a variety of domains and benchmark datasets. Codes will be developed using open-source languages and frameworks and licensed to members under compatible permissive licenses. Access to datasets.
Education and Training Opportunities
Become a leader in data science. Learn to communicate and manage data science projects. Participate in biannual data science bootcamps to get a basic introduction to data science textbooks, resources, and methods. Participate in new majors, minors, certificates, and classes.
